Our midwife services for hospital birth where midwifery care is the same as it would be in the home – continuous support by the midwife who remains with you at your side to provide support, advice, reassurance and guidance throughout the labor and birth. Where no routine interventions such as continuous electronic fetal monitoring, IV fluids, breaking the bag of waters, or birthing in bed on your back occur. Walking, showering, bath tub, squatting, hands and knees, eating, drinking, as at home all apply.
Support of the normal physiological process of labor and birth with walking, lunging, squatting, drinking, eating, showering, and tub soaking. Newborn immediately placed in mother’s arms, cord is not clamped and cut until you are ready, breastfeeding is the focus as soon as the newborn is ready to latch.
In the hospital, if a mother requests pain medication the nurse midwife may order that for her including nitrous oxide, epidural and IV narcotics.
In BOTH the home birth practice and the hospital birth practice obstetricians and maternal fetal medicine physicians are available at all times for consultation if abnormal conditions arise. We work as a team as we are trusted colleagues.
