Denver Colorado hospital birth services include evaluation in early labor at home or at St. Josepth’s Hospital by your midwife. Labor support at home, if preferred, until active labor ensues. Accompanied by your midwife to St. Josepth’s Hospital where she admits you and remains with you at your side throughout labor and birth, providing the same supportive care as she does at a home birth. Use of a large soaking tub and/or shower for comfort in labor, eating, drinking, walking, and use of birth ball are all encouraged, as at home.
Birth in the position of your choice, that works best for you, including supported squat, standing, hands and knees. Newborn immediately to mother’s arms and placenta delivered without force. Cord clamped and cut with your permission after placenta is delivered and the cord has ceased pulsating.
Breastfeeding initiated as soon as newborn is ready to latch. If repair of a vaginal tear is needed, it is delayed until newborn has finished breastfeeding. Newborn is not bathed unless and until you request it.
